Do consulting firms need better websites?

m000kie asked:
According to the WebAward Internet Standards Assessment, consulting firm websites rank average in content, copywriting ease of use, and design, but score lower in innovation, interactivity and technology.
Should an individual consulting firm go above the benchmark and increase innovation, interactivity and technology, or will this take away from the perceived value of the company?
